Upcoming Events!

Please see this section for the ALL events happening at school!

December 12th - Pot Luck with your teacher from 5:30-7:00 p.m.  Please bring a covered dish, bread or dessert to share with the classroom.  I will be visiting with the parents and students during this time.  This has been planned in hopes of having a small celebration to kick off our holiday break.

December 10th - December 21st - Non Parishable Drive - We are asking you to donate non parishables for our school.  Each grade is going to put together a basket to donate to a needy family in our school.  The students are going to work together in my classroom to help put together as many baskets as we can make together.  The classroom with the most baskets is going to win a pizza party!  Please help me in donating items for our families within our school.  Thank you!

December 21st - Classroom Party from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m.!  We need water, juice, cupcakes and cookies for our holiday party.  A small finger food might also be a good idea (like a veggie tray with ranch dip or pre-cut sandwiches).  I need a few parents to help me put together goodie bags and treats for the party or deliver them on the day of the party.  Please let me know in advance what you can bring so we do not have an abundance of the same item.

Please see here for more to come...

HOMEWORK

WELCOME TO THE HOMEWORK SECTION
FOR THE CLASSROOM OF KIMBERLY GUZMAN

A Brief Word:

Homework is very important to our young students today.  There is just not enough time in the few hours they are in the classroom to work on a concept for them to truly grasp it.  This is why we, as educators, must assign homework.  As a parent, I know it can be very difficult to have your child find the time to complete their homework, especially with your help.  This is why I will only assign work that I believe is of the utmost importance for them to drill on with parental support at home and will continue working on during school as well.  You may also look in this section for project assignments and other upcoming events regarding work at home.  Thank you for your continued support in the education of your special child.

Homework for December:

Week of December 10th - 14th

READING - Remember to have them read a minimum of 20 minutes per night to help build fluency and recognition!  This is daily and is the most important homework your child should perform every night.

Homework Packets - See the homework packet that will go out on Monday.  All homework is due by Friday. No Late Work will be accepted and a zero will be given if not received by December 14th.

Week of December 17th - 21st

READING - Remember to have them read a minimum of 20 minutes per night to help build fluency and recognition!

There will be little homework going home this week as Friday is the beginning of our holiday break.  There will be a packet going home on Friday for the students to work on over the break.  Try to schedule time every day for reading and math so they do not wait until the end of the break to finish their packets.

Week of January 7th - 11th

Please Note:  Holiday Packets Due January 7th!  There will be a late penalty of 10 points per day and it will not be accepted after January 9th.

READING - Remember to have them read a minimum of 20 minutes per night to help build fluency and recognition!

Homework Packets - See the homework packet that will go out on Monday.  All homework is due by Friday.  No Late Work will be accepted and a zero will be given if not received by January 11th.

February - Early Notice - There will be a science project beginning in February/March.  The details will follow in late January.  All requirements will be listed in the details.  Be aware you will be given a minimum of 2 weeks to complete the science project.  Look for details in the Tuesday folders on the last week of January.

As always, for any concerns or questions please feel free to call or email me.

Sincerely,

Ms. Guzman

Dear Parents and Students,

Below please find some very helpful resources I would like for you to browse and use throughout the year.  These are some very helpful and informative ones to use.  Remember, you can always use the library for free to use a computer.  The public library is the most underused resource available to you and your family!

Welcome Message to Parents!

Hello and welcome parents and students!  Hola y Buenos dios!  My name is Kimberly Guzman and I am so proud to be teaching your student this year.  I would like to share a few things about myself with you so you can understand a little bit about me and my expectations for this year.

First of all, my teaching philosophies are as follows:

The learning environment should be a safe and fun environment.

All children should be able to freely express themselves without fear of reprisal or ridicule.

Children should be engaged at all times.

With structure and a solid schedule children function at a low rate of anxiety and a high rate of readiness to learn and use of creativity.

Parental involvement is key to the successful and healthy educational process for their child.

The third grade teachers plan to take at least 2 field trips and there will be many small projects throughout the year.  Plenty of notice will be given along with permission slips and calendars so you can be aware of what is due and what is being covered in the classroom.

My office hours are from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  Should you need to conference with me, my conference time is from 11:50 a.m. – 12:20 p.m.  Please feel free to write me a note or email me to schedule a conference should you need one.  My email address is:  Kguzman1@houstonisd.org  Due to my joining the school so late in the school year I would love to take the opportunity to meet each and every one of you at your convenience.  Be on the lookout for the pot luck supper coming next week.  This would be the perfect time to get to know each other!

I am looking forward to an excellent year with your student!

“It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.”  -  Albert Einstein (1879-1955)

Kimberly's Biography

Welcome to my Blog!!  Here's a little bit about me, Ms. Kimberly Guzman:

I am a native Houstonian!  I graduated from Sam Houston State University with a degree in music therapy.  I have 2 beautiful children that I love and adore and spend many volunteer hours with on a weekly basis.  I am very involved in their education and have been since day one.  Because of my increased involvement in their education throughout the years, I have always felt drawn to teaching.  However, due to different jobs in my life and level of volunteer work as well, the timing never seemed right.

In 2012, while reviewing educational programs like Houston Community College's Accredited Teacher Certification Program, I came across information about a scholarship opportunity.  I immediately gathered the appropriate materials, submitted my application, and was approved.  Due to this amazing opportunity afforded to me, I enrolled in the program and began on June 17, 2012.  I have continued working hard throughout the entire course of this program and have learned many amazing things throughout this time.

I am writing this blog as a school requirement, but may decide upon keeping it up after the assignment is submitted.  I look forward to blogging this week and seeing how it is received by friends and other classmates in my program.
